History
Where it all began

Lancaster Mutual Insurance Company has its headquarters in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania - a small community of just 984 square miles, with a large Amish population, deep agricultural roots, and a strong sense of history. Formerly known as Reamstown Mutual, Lancaster Mutual Insurance Company is a Goodville Mutual Insurance Group subsidiary, in operation since 1926.

1895

Reamstown Mutual Insurance Company was founded by Rudy Brossman, Henry Gockley, Henry Lausch, and Andrew Shimp. As businessmen and community leaders, they recognized the need to establish a local insurance company to protect their neighbor's homes and businesses that the established companies could not or would not write. The founders truly gave protection at cost. Many times, the officers of the company would pay claims out of their own pockets and wait to recover their cost from the annual assessment levied upon the policyholders, saving policyholders many dollars since sometimes no interest was charged.

1963

The company expanded its insurance lines to begin writing Homeowners, Mobile Homeowners, and other related insurance products through over 100 independent insurance agencies in Pennsylvania.

2019

In January, Reamstown Mutual Insurance Company affiliated with Goodville Mutual Insurance Group to provide stability and to share servicing expenses. August of the same year, AM Best assigned Reamstown Mutual Insurance Company an "A" (Excellent) Financial Strength Rating.
